September 22 is widely recognized as Hobbit Day, being the birthday of both Bilbo and Frodo.
As you know, in the Holler we like us some traditional folk music!
As many of the languages of Middle Earth are rarely heard spoken these days in these parts, I thought it would be good to hunt down some performances in the old Dwarvish and Elvish languages and dialects, lest these die out among us completely. I fear there is a positive dearth of songs in the noble Rohirric.
Even in my own youth, it was much more common to come across an aged farmer or wandering troubadour who was still fluent in the Old Tongues than it is today. Sit back, load up your meerschaum with some excellent Southfarthing pipe-weed, and settle in for a treat.
‘Misty Mountains’ (Dwarvish)
‘And We Praise’ (Dwarvish)
‘Lothlórien’ (Elvish dialects)
‘The Passing of the Elves’ (Sindarin)
‘Eowyn’s Requiem’ (Rohirric)
