Could be, but it does seem something is increasingly going wrong with us, especially the young. It isn’t making them happier….

It's sad when people burden themselves with more and more things that they think are assets but are actually things that perpetuate the burnout.

I thought I was a prude for waiting to have kids or buy a new car but these days I am glad that I didn't jump on those opportunities that have huge costs, not only in time and money, but worry!

In the past, or in a different society some of these things are not as burdensome, but wow when I see my family or friends already in the situation keep on bringing more burdens on their already over busy life. A friend got another dog even though he's barely making ends meet for his family. It's like they rather operate in this mode that keeps them numbed to their selves.

RE “the increasing prevalence of mental health disorders”: why believe that mental health is the individual’s default state? I don’t believe that human beings are naturally mentally healthy. I believe that the term “mental health” is a nice story, but a false one.

Taking into account the way ‘health’ of all kinds has become one of the tools for manipulation of people into ‘medical markets’, I find it strange to say there is no baseline position of overall fitness for life (health) in any species. Including not least humans.

You have that absolutely right about “medical markets”, Peter. It’s more about control and manipulation than anything.
