... and, of course, we have our neolithic tomb at Newgrange, which is best known for the illumination of its passage and chamber by the rising sun at the Winter Solstice. Above the entrance to the passage of the mound there is a opening called a roof-box. On mornings around the winter solstice a beam of light penetrates the roof-box and travels up the 19m (62ft) passage and into the chamber. As the sun rises higher, the beam widens so that the whole chamber is dramatically illuminated.
Ah, a tomb. I have heard of various structures related to solstices and equinoxes, but a tomb that marks the hope of rebirth is very interesting indeed!
As a child in the fifties, I roamed around Newgrange to my heart's delight and loved/sensed its ancientness and divinity any time of year but (to me), since it was 'rebuilt' in the sixties, it lost its specialness and became just another tourist attraction...
It's my belief that the Irish, perhaps as a result of their culture as well as their history, have far more so than any other people a decided penchant for bringing a sense of light and hope into the darkest of days and most dire of circumstances... music well chosen for these dark days and dire circumstances... as well as for the occasion... and a happy solstice to you and yours as well!
Wonderful harmony! Wonderful to touch the ground of Being beneath all the celebrations
Wonderful music and thank you for introducing me to Steeleye Span... don't know how I missed them...

If you have a link that describes that tomb somewhat could you share it with us in the notes here?
